A southeast Houston home was struck by a speeding vehicle yesterday morning, as shown in surveillance footage circulating in local media. A neighbor's doorbell camera recorded the car’s trajectory as it left the road, flipped, and crashed into the residence at 12206 Palmsprings Drive, near Freeton Street, around 9:30 a.m. The Houston Police Department has reported the incident but has not yet confirmed whether charges will be filed against the driver, according to ABC13.
Eloisa Cavanaugh, the homeowner, recounted the experience to KPRC 2, saying, "It’s only a miracle that I'm alive," as she assessed the damage, she found the truck had destroyed the frame of her doorway and left her kitchen in disarray, just moments after preparing what she described as her so-called breakfast. She initially mistook the vehicle, which had caught fire, for an explosive force, thinking it was a bomb. Neighbors later helped remove her from the wreckage.
After the incident, the driver, who escaped the vehicle with minor injuries, was seen attempting to extinguish the fire with a garden hose. Cavanaugh then heard sounds coming from behind the car, which was engulfed in flames. Firefighters and police arrived on the scene to assist the injured and secure the area, while neighbors had already helped Cavanaugh move to safety, which is all detailed according to the footage obtained and events reported by KPRC 2.
The homeowner, Eloisa Cavanaugh, expressed concerns about the stability of the structure, as she told KPRC 2, "the roof is cracked all the way to the bedroom," suggesting that her home could be at risk of collapse, though she plans to stay for now, hoping that adverse weather does not worsen the situation. She intends to file a claim with the truck driver’s insurance, Allstate, and hopes for a prompt resolution to address the damage and ensure her safety.
