A 23-year-old man was fatally shot in Warren, prompting a SWAT response and multiple arrests as police investigated the domestic nature of the incident. Audacy reported that police were called to a home on Paige Street early yesterday, where they found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds in the backyard. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers interviewed witnesses and believed the shooting stemmed from a domestic violence incident involving the victim, his ex-girlfriend, and possibly her family members. ClickOnDetroit reported that multiple unidentified individuals and children were at a home on Jewett Avenue, near the scene, leading to the activation of the Special Response Team to ensure safety during the operation.
According to Macomb Daily, the investigation led to the detention of two women from the Jewett Avenue home. They were taken in for questioning at the Warren Police Department. Later developments pointed to a 32-year-old male relative of one of the women likely being involved in the shooting, based on evidence found at the scene. The police then arrested the man at a residence on Thomas Street, where another woman was also taken in for further questioning.
Audacy obtained a statement from the police affirming that "there is no active threat to the community at this time as this incident involved persons all known to each other."
The Warren Police Department continues to manage an open and active investigation into the tragic event. The findings of the investigators are slated to be presented to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office. For now, two adult suspects are in custody; their names have yet to be released.
