Early Saturday morning in Dorchester, officers arrested a 22-year-old man on multiple firearm-related charges after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of a weapon. The Boston Police Department reported that Cameron Leonard of Weymouth was pulled over on Columbia Rd. and Holden St. due to driving with an expired registration.
The incident, occurring around 2:10 AM, escalated when officers directed all occupants to exit the stopped vehicle before towing. They noticed Leonard’s suspicious behavior as he held up his right hand while keeping his left in his pocket, exhibiting signs often linked to armed individuals. During a pat-frisk, officers felt what appeared to be a firearm on Leonard. When confronted, Leonard attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended.
Recovered from his hooded sweatshirt, the apprehended weapon was identified as a Sig Sauer, Model P320 M18, a 9mm caliber firearm equipped with a ten-round capacity magazine, which at the time contained seven rounds, though none was chambered. This was detailed in the official police statement.
Leonard now faces several charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Loaded Firearm, and, Resisting Arrest; he is expected to be arraigned in the Roxbury District Court as confirmed by the Boston Police Department.
