Mayor Mike Purzycki has extended an open invitation to the residents and visitors of Wilmington to join the 60th Annual Wilmington Jaycees Christmas Parade. The event, which also aligns with Small Business Saturday, promises to usher in the holiday season with a sense of community spirit and festive merriment. As reported by the official news release, the Mayor expressed that the season represents "a special time of year for people of different faiths, cultures, and communities."

On Saturday, November 30, the much-anticipated event will commence at 11:00 a.m., where the parade will make its journey from 2nd and Market streets, grace the streets of Downtown Wilmington, and culminate at 12th Street. Parade Director Samar Kargbo told media, "The Christmas Parade has been a treasured tradition in Wilmington for six decades, bringing together our community to celebrate the joy and magic of the holidays." The parade features marching bands from local schools, performances by community groups, vintage cars, local dignitaries, and of course, the anticipated arrival of Santa Claus.

In recognition of the parade's milestone year, unique surprises and entertainment are expected to captivate the attendees. To ensure ample celebration, and as per the official announcement, free street parking will be available during the parade. Additional free parking can be found at select Wilmington Parking Authority lots, including at 6th and Orange Streets, and 8th and Orange Streets, as well as the Customs House Garage under the Doubletree Hotel.

Further supporting the downtown business area, the City's holiday season parking meter policy will take effect starting Friday, November 29, and run until Thursday, January 2, 2025. This initiative waives the parking meter fees in the Downtown Business District on weekdays from noon to 6:00 p.m., allowing a two-hour parking period. Brett Taylor, Department of Finance Director, reminds citizens that, while payment is waived, other traffic regulations will still be enforced, including designated tow-away zones, and time-limited spots – details that are crucial for those planning to attend the event or shop downtown.

The Wilmington Jaycees, hosting the time-honored parade, is an organization committed to leadership and community service, aiming to create a positive local impact.
