Wilmington Police have made an arrest in connection with a shooting that claimed the life of a young man earlier this fall. On the night of September 4, tragedy unfolded on the 700 block of East 22nd Street when 19-year-old Kwamir Wise was fatally shot, an incident that sent shockwaves through the community, as reported by the Wilmington Police Department.
Investigation efforts led by Detectives Brandon Mosley and Thomas Rittenhouse of the Criminal Investigations Division have, after nearly two months, culminated in the arrest of a suspect. The detectives managed to quickly and decisively narrow down the scope of their search, identifying 19-year-old Amir Henry as the alleged assailant.
According to a press release by Wilmington Police, the coordinated effort between local law enforcement agencies resulted in Henry being located and apprehended without incident in the unit block of Bedford Drive on November 1. The suspect now faces several serious charges, including First Degree Murder, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, and Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon.
The case, which has understandably attracted considerable local attention, now moves onto a new stage following Henry's arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11. The suspect has been committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, with a substantial cash-only bail set at $190,000, the Wilmington Police Department stated.
