The much-publicized YSL RICO case resumed in Fulton County without rapper Young Thug, following his acceptance of a plea deal. Young Thug, whose legal name is Jeffery Williams, along with three other co-defendants, struck deals with the court last week, significantly altering the landscape of the ongoing trial. As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, the trial now proceeds with only two defendants, Deamonte Kendrick, known as Yak Gotti, and Shannon Stillwell.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Paige Reese Whitaker told jurors to focus on the evidence about the remaining defendants, explicitly instructing them to "disregard the absence of certain co-defendants" and avoid speculation about their plea deals. As for Young Thug, he received a sentence of 40 years with 5 to be served in prison, although it was commuted to time served. His probation period requires him to conduct several anti-gang, anti-gun violence presentations annually at metro Atlanta schools or community organizations.
However, an unexpected twist came when Shannon Stillwell, one of the remaining defendants, was stabbed by a fellow inmate, Willie Brown, delaying the trial briefly. This incident, detailed by Hoodline, forced an adjournment, with the judge citing a "medical issue" as the cause for the delay. While the nature of the altercation that led to the stabbing remains undisclosed, authorities confirmed that Stillwell is in stable condition.
Previously, another notable rapper Gunna, associated with the YSL label, took an Alford plea, acknowledging that it was in his best interest to plead guilty despite not admitting to the crime. As the trial continues following these developments, attention remains on the remaining defendants, whose charges include conspiracy to violate RICO, murder, participation in criminal street gang activity, and gun offenses. Notwithstanding the judicial interruptions, the case against members of Young Slime Life still asserts a deep-rooted involvement in a criminal enterprise.
