A reward has been offered for information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect involved in the September shooting at Brooklyn's Caribbean carnival parade, where four people were wounded and one man, 25-year-old Denzel Chan, was fatally shot after a suspect hurdled a police barricade and fired into the crowd during the annual festivities on Eastern Parkway.
The incident, which left Chan dead and the other victims in stable condition at Kings County Hospital, has prompted authorities to propose a $10,000 reward – as ABC7 New York stipulates, $3,500 of which is payable by CrimeStoppers for an arrest and indictment while the remaining $6,500 is payable by the NYPD for the suspect's arrest and conviction; police have circulated a photo of the wanted individual in the hopes that the public can aid in capturing the perpetrator of the crime that disrupted a storied cultural celebration, eternally marred by bloodshed.
According to a New York Post report, this year's parade violence, under investigation as potentially gang-related, belongs to a continuum of violence associated with the event which includes the fatal shootings in preceding years of Carey Gabay, an aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Tiarah Poyau, a St. John's University student, and Tyreke Borel, 17.
The NYPD urges anyone with information about the suspect to come forward, offering various channels: a call to Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS for English speakers or 1-888-57-PISTA for Spanish speakers, as well as an option to submit tips via the Crime Stoppers website.
