
A tragic incident unfolded on Gum Branch Road in the Freedom Division, as an 11-year-old boy, Hendrix Truesdale, was struck by a vehicle and subsequently died from his injuries. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reported that the accident occurred yesterday, at around 7:26 a.m.
According to officials, Freedom Division officers responded to a call of a pedestrian struck and upon their arrival found the unresponsive juvenile on the side of the road. A 2016 Nissan Frontier, involved in the incident, was present at the scene. Truesdale was transported to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The initial investigation suggests that the young boy was crossing the road outside of an marked crosswalk when the incident occurred.
The vehicle in question and its driver remained on location during the emergency response. While impairment and speed have been ruled out as contributing factors to the crash, the investigation remains active. Authorities are reaching out to the community, seeking any witnesses to the crash or anyone with information that could help elucidate the circumstances of this unfortunate event.
