South El Monte witnessed a disturbing start to the day when a Metro bus collided with a big rig early Wednesday morning. The Los Angeles County Fire Department reported that the incident occurred around 6 a.m. at the intersection of Rosemead Boulevard and Klingerman Street, near the 168 Ace Lumber & Supply business, as ABC7 detailed. Injuries were sustained by several passengers, ranging from minor to critical, according to the first responders on the scene.
Details provided by authorities and local news outlets suggest that at least 12 individuals were affected by the crash, with the number of hospitalized victims reaching seven at the time of early reports, including the bus operator. The northbound lanes of Rosemead Boulevard remained closed between Klingerman and Rush streets as the investigation ensued, as KTLA reported.
A statement from Metro touched upon the incident, extending "sympathies to those injured and thanks the LA County Sheriff’s Department, the San Gabriel Police Department, the El Monte Police Department and the LA County Fire Department for their quick response in assisting everyone," as stated by ABC7.
