A serious vehicle collision in Encinitas has led to a 24-year-old man being hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. The crash occurred late yesterday night at the Santa Fe Drive and Lake Drive crossing.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Office preliminary investigation reveals that the man was eastbound on Santa Fe Drive in a 2003 Toyota Tacoma and proceeded to, unfortunately, cross the intersection as a 16-year-old girl was turning south onto Lake Drive from the opposite direction. Behind the wheel of a 2016 Nissan Frontier, the girl was executing the turn on a "Left Turn Yield" green light, which led to the Tacoma overturning after the vehicles collided. The young driver was uninjured and remained at the scene.
The ejected driver was urgently taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. A 23-year-old passenger who was in Tacoma at the time of the crash sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to the same hospital. The event underscores the fragility of life on the road. It serves as a cautionary tale for the unpredictable nature of traffic and the inherent risks even when obeying traffic signals..
