An Ann Arbor woman, aged 71, is currently receiving medical attention after being struck by a vehicle in a noted pedestrian crosswalk on Wednesday morning. The Country Herald reports the incident occurred near Packard Street and Fernwood Avenue around 7:15 a.m.
The driver, a 57-year-old local resident, was navigating eastward on Packard when the accident transpired, even as the signal beamed green at the intersection with Fernwood Avenue, witnesses conveyed to the authorities. According to the WWJ Newsradio, alcohol was not deemed a factor in the crash. The victim was in the crosswalk, officials said, when the collision happened.
Following the accident, Ann Arbor Police issued a notification advising drivers to steer clear from the crash locale, as reported by MLive. Both directions of Fernwood Avenue and eastbound Packard were closed for the morning as the investigation was initiated.
The driver involved in the crash has been cooperating with the investigation as per Country Herald, and stayed at the scene following the incident. Police have not disclosed what led up to the crash but, have requested any additional witnesses to come forth with information.
