Surprise Senior Center is introducing a new class called "A Matter of Balance," designed to help individuals aged 50 and older improve their strength and balance. In partnership with A.T. Still University, the class will focus on strategies to manage and prevent falls, promoting safety and confidence in daily activities. The program will be offered soon at the center, according to the City of Surprise.

A free series of weekly classes is available for people over 50 who are concerned about falling, whether due to a history of falls or a desire to improve balance and strength. The program uses an award-winning, evidence-based approach to help participants view falls as controllable, set goals to increase activity, make changes at home to reduce fall risks, and exercise to build strength and balance. The program addresses both physical and psychological aspects of fall prevention, as reported by the City of Surprise.

Classes will be held every Friday from January 17 to March 7, 2025, excluding Valentine's Day, at the Surprise Senior Center (15382 Hollyhock St.) from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The class is limited to 20 participants, and you do not need to be a member of the Senior Center to sign up. Registration is required and can be done by contacting Jordan Burck at 623-222-1500 or [email protected], as stated by the City of Surprise.
