Alcoa residents may soon experience safer streets as the city begins seeking planning experts to implement its Safe Streets for All initiative. Announced by city officials, this project is driven by a planning grant designed to enhance public safety on roadways. Firms interested in contributing to this effort are invited to submit their qualifications. According to the City of Alcoa official website, prospective firms must address at least six of the eight key components outlined by the Department of Transportation for a comprehensive Safety Action Plan.
The search for expertise comes with a strict deadline: candidates must submit their proposals electronically to Megan Brooks, P.E., the city's Development Services Director, by 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2025. This requirement reflects the city's embrace of modern and efficient communication practices. The plan aims not only to enhance safety but also to embody a broader commitment to progress and equity. In alignment with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Alcoa has pledged to ensure a fair and non-discriminatory selection process for all participating firms.
In keeping with these guidelines, it is known that the city reserves the right to select or decline any and all proposals, which assures a level playing field for planning firms vying for the prestigious project. The candidates are expected not only to bring innovation and expertise but also to uphold the principles of equality and nondiscrimination as federally mandated for projects receiving federal assistance.
This initiative reflects a profound resolve to uphold civil rights principles, ensuring equitable access to safer streets for individuals regardless of race, gender, age, national origin, or physical ability. City officials see this project as a dual endeavor—enhancing public safety while reinforcing the values of fairness and inclusivity that define the community’s spirit.
