A man from Allen Park has been taken into custody following a road rage incident on Interstate 75 where he allegedly pointed a gun at another driver, officials report. The confrontation, which was captured on video by the victim, occurred last Saturday around 11:05 a.m. along northbound I-75 near Dix Highway.
After reviewing the footage, Michigan State Police were able to discern the license plate of the suspect's Ram pickup truck, as detailed in a report from CBS News Detroit. The address associated with the vehicle's registration led detectives to the suspect's home. Parked in the driveway, the truck as seen in surveillance served as the suspect's grim welcoming sign.
The 31-year-old suspect was arrested at his residence on Sunday. A subsequent search of the home led to the seizure of an additional 14 firearms. According to MSP Lt. Mike Shaw, the prompt and meticulous efforts of the troopers and detectives were instrumental in apprehending the suspect. "It was only a matter of time before this suspect went from pointing a gun to pulling the trigger," Lt. Shaw asserted in a statement obtained by CBS News Detroit. "Again, there is no reason to use a firearm to settle a simple traffic dispute."
Currently held at the Detroit Detention Center, the suspect awaits the determination of formal charges by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office for felonious assault. The Freeway Investigative Support Team (FIST) of the MSP, which played a critical role in the investigation, took the suspect into custody without incident, seizing guns that may have spelled future violence.
