An early morning stroll turned tragic for a 74-year-old Annapolis resident and his pet dog. The Annapolis Police Department said they responded to a call at around 7:25 a.m. near Cedar Park Road and Woodlawn Avenue, where they discovered David Chan lying unconscious in front of his home after being struck by a car. Attempts to save him were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Annapolis Fire Department personnel, as reported by Eye on Annapolis.
The accident occurred shortly after Chan had departed his residence to take his Rottweiler on their morning walk. Details from WMAR2 News indicate that a Honda Odyssey, driven by a 62-year-old man, hit both Chan and the dog while they were crossing the street. The driver remained on scene and has yet to be charged while the police continue investigating the cause of the incident. The collision led to severe injuries for the dog, which ultimately resulted in the family's decision to euthanize the animal.
Although no official charges have been filed, the Annapolis Police Department is actively working to uncover the details of the incident and provide closure to a case that has deeply affected the community. Updates will be shared as the investigation continues and more information becomes available.
