A tragic sequence has reached its somber conclusion as Iman Gaye, the woman who was stabbed in an apparent domestic dispute while holding her toddler outside Pentagon City Mall, has died from her injuries. This development has led to Leonardo Reyes facing a second-degree murder charge, in a case that has rattled the Arlington community. As reported by FOX 5 DC, the attack occurred just over two weeks ago on December 14, and has since culminated in Gaye's death on a Monday morning, after battling critical injuries.
The assault took place around 9:45 p.m. as Gaye was walking with her children, when Reyes reportedly approached and stabbed her and the toddler she was carrying. Police say he then fled on foot, but a lookout was issued promptly and officers spotted a man matching Reyes' description entering a parking garage upon their arrival at the scene Reyes was apprehended after a struggle and with the aid of a K9 unit. As detailed by WUSA9, Gaye's daughter received treatment and was released on December 23, while another child present during the incident was unharmed but witnessed the violence.
Following the attack, Reyes was initially charged with two counts each of aggravated malicious wounding, contributing to the delinquency of a child, and child abuse, with these charges now being updated due to the victim's death. As per information obtained by NBC Washington, the accused is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility.
