Early Tuesday morning, a reported home invasion escalated into a kidnapping and a stabbing at The Edge at Lowry Apartments on Dallas Street in Aurora, leading to the detention of 14 individuals. According to 9News, Aurora Police responded to the emergency around 2:30 a.m.
The incident began when suspects allegedly entered an apartment, threatening and subsequently moving two occupants to another location on the property, where they were restrained. One victim was stabbed, but, the injuries were said to not be life-threatening. After being held for some time, the victims managed to contact authorities upon their release, as reported by KKTV.
This alarming event comes in the wake of tensions between Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman and Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, concerning the settlement of migrants within the city. Accusations of "human dumping" levied by Coffman imply that Johnston placed migrants into Aurora complexes without proper communication or consent. Amidst the claims, Coffman has taken steps to request records about the city's actions regarding migrant housing, including details of contracts with responsible nonprofits. CBS News Colorado reports this development in light of a related viral video that highlighted the underlying issues.
The circumstances surrounding the home invasion are still under examination, with local authorities detaining and questioning the suspects for further clarification on their motives, and potential connections to broader concerns within the community. Details on the suspects' identities and subsequent charges have not yet been released to the public.
