If you're hankering for some decent grub and want to give back while you're at it, The Ball Park in Blaine was the spot to be this past Sunday. In a show of solidarity with Special Olympics Minnesota, the Blaine Police Department traded in their handcuffs for aprons and served as "celebrity waiters" at the locally popular joint located at 10650 Baltimore St. NE Suite 100. This event, dubbed Tip-A-Cop, invited residents to enjoy a meal while watching the Vikings game and offered a unique opportunity to interact with local law enforcement in a setting far removed from their day-to-day beat.
The altruistic event, held on December 29 from 3 PM until the Vikings game drew to a close, had a special twist — all the “tips” received by the officers went directly to support the Special Olympics Minnesota, as highlighted in a social media post by Blaine Police Department. Fans and families were not just there for the love of the game, but also for the community spirit that the Special Olympics fosters. Generous patrons who donated $20 or more took home more than just the warmth of giving — they snagged a commemorative t-shirt or hat for their efforts.
It's not often one sees officers serving up plates in lieu of serving warrants, but amidst the cheers for first downs and touchdowns, there was a different kind of teamwork in play at The Ball Park. Local Special Olympics athletes also made appearances, bridging the gap between those who serve and protect and those who strive and inspire. Events like these are a testament to the community's collective effort to lift up its members who battle against the odds every day to live their fullest lives.
This community engagement initiative was more than just a fundraiser; it was a moment where the badge met the public in a space of mutual respect and camaraderie. "Every customer who donates $20 or more, will receive a t-shirt or hat," the Blaine Police Department announced prior to the event, reinforcing that charitable giving could be both fun and rewarding. For the Blaine Police Department and The Ball Park, it was a Sunday well spent, a balance of sportsmanship and philanthropy that struck a chord with locals. And though the event has passed, the spirit of giving and community support it celebrated continues to ripple through the city of Blaine.
