The Bloomington Police Department turned to social media in a search for insights into a recent act of vandalism that police say may have been racially and politically motivated.
Early Wednesday morning, an unknown individual targeted a vehicle and a residence on the 1300 block of 86th St E with graffiti; a detailed description of the suspect has been shared in a Facebook post by the local police department, urging witnesses or those with information to step forward. The suspect is described as a white male with a medium build, brandishing a reddish beard, donning a green jacket, red shirt sporting a white logo on the left thigh area, brown boots, a gray stocking cap, and carrying a gray backpack with black trim at the time of the incident, was seen arriving from the east and afterward was last seen heading southbound on Bloomington Ave S from 86th St E.
This unsettling event has prompted an investigation helmed by Detective Bill King, who can be contacted with any leads at 952-563-8839. The nature of the graffiti, which targeted an individual's personal property, is believed to be racially charged; the affected party suspects individual selection for this malicious act may be tied to visible political expressions and advocacy for law enforcement, as shown by yard signs and bumper stickers.
Due to the sensitive implications of the crime, community members are encouraged to come together and share any knowledge that may contribute to the apprehension of the individual responsible.
