On Friday night, a routine traffic stop in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston escalated to an arrest after officers discovered a firearm in the vehicle. The Boston Police Department reported that at approximately 9:30 PM, officers from District B-2 observed a vehicle with windows excessively tinted on Blue Hill Avenue. The situation took a turn when the driver failed to heed a red light and did not immediately stop for the pursuing officers.
Eventually halting on Norfolk Avenue and Gerard Street, the driver, identified as David Jones, 50, of Roxbury, was approached by the police. With the lights flashing and sirens blaring, the officers conducted a standard check on the individual. Jones was requested to exit the car following the revelation that his driver's license was inactive. Upon conducting a vehicle inventory search, the officers found a Springfield Armory XD-40 with ten rounds loaded in the magazine.
The attempt to handcuff Jones was not without incident; reported resistance led to the need for backup officers to ensure secure detainment. Once in custody, Jones faced multiple charges, including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2nd Offense), Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, among other violations. The Boston Police Department stated that he was also charged with a Firearm Violation with One Prior Violent/Drug Crime, Resisting Arrest, and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
Arraignment was the notable next step awaiting Jones at the Roxbury District Court, indicating the judicial process is taking its due course. Despite the suspect beginning to resist when officers attempted to place him into handcuffs, the Boston Police stress that the officers involved were able to ensure no one was injured during the arrest.
