A Boston police officer found himself on the wrong side of the law this Christmas Day, after being arrested on allegations of domestic violence and other charges. Officer Terrence Murray, a four-year member of the Boston Police Department, was taken into custody following an early morning altercation in Hull, Massachusetts. NBC Boston reports that Murray, having just completed an overnight shift, is accused of assaulting a household member and improperly storing a firearm. During the dispute, Murray allegedly pushed the victim to the ground and punched a hole in a door, actions unfolding while children slept elsewhere in the residence.
The victim informed authorities that Murray had become "increasingly angry and emotional," a detail corroborated by court filings. Though she declined medical care, the situation necessitated police intervention. Responding officers were met with an absence, Murray having vacated the premises prior to their arrival. He was later located and arrested, according to NBC Boston.
Upon apprehension, officers discovered Murray's duty firearm, absentmindedly stowed beneath the rear seat of his Jeep. This misplacement displays a troubling disregard for regulation. Additionally, substances believed to be steroids were found in his possession. As per a statement given to WCVB, charges arrayed against Murray include one count of assault and battery on a family member, one count of improper firearm storage, and two counts of Class E drug possession.
Murray pled not guilty to all charges during his arraignment today in Hingham District Court, where his bail was set at $500. Conditions of his release include no repeated abuse and relinquishing any possession of firearms. The Boston Police Department has reassigned Murray to administrative duty, and the Boston Police Bureau of Professional Standards has opened an investigation to further probe the incident and the allegations against the officer.
