Boston Police's specialized Youth Violence Strike Force made a critical arrest on the afternoon of December 18, a situation that could have otherwise escalated into a more dangerous one. At around 1:51 PM, 22-year-old Elijah Carvalho of Cambridge was taken into custody on multiple firearm and drug offenses in Dorchester.
Earlier the same day, following an assault involving a male victim and a group, intelligence received by the officers indicated a brewing plot for retaliation. Patrol officers, while canvassing the area, spotted Carvalho on Lawrence Avenue, his figure casting the telltale outline of a concealed weapon. A tactical approach and subsequent pat-frisk led to the discovery of the firearm—a 9mm Glock 19 Gen 3, altered into a fully automatic weapon with a so-called "switch."
During the apprehension and booking, officers also confiscated six small pills from Carvalho, believed to be Oxycodone. The modified Glock, found on Carvalho's person, contained a live round in the chamber and was matched with an extended magazine that held a surplus of rounds. What's more, the firearm's serial numbers had been purposefully made illegible.
The details of the arrest and Carvalho's charges, which include the unlawful possession of a machine gun and a large capacity feeding device, were outlined in a statement from the Boston Police Department. Carvalho is slated to face these charges in the Roxbury District Court.
