Attention, Boulder County residents: a significant update to local building regulations is on the horizon. Boulder County is shifting gears from the 2015 building codes to the more current 2021 I-Codes. To ensure the transition is smooth and the community is heard, the Board of Review has set a public hearing for January 8, 2025, to discuss and refine the proposed building code adoption and pertinent amendments in Docket BORC-24-0001, according to Boulder County.
On January 8, at 2 p.m., the Board of Review will consider a motion to recommend that Ron Flax, Boulder County's Deputy Director and Chief Building Official, deliver their recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners, which is slated for final approval of the updates. While the updated building code is thoroughly being reviewed, the public's testimony has been solicited throughout this process at meetings, and through direct communication via [email protected].
The details of the hearing are clear, interested community members can make their way physically to the Community Planning & Permitting Department at 2045 13th Street, Boulder, CO, or virtually. For those opting for remote participation, information on how to join the meeting online as well as the agenda and information packet for the January 8th assembly, can be found on the county's official news page.
As noted by Boulder County, the draft of the amended Building Code, dated December 20, is now available for public review. The county underlines its commitment to high standards by adopting the updated codes early in 2025 and emphasizes that the professional insights of licensed practitioners shape the core of this updating procedure. They just remind us that these amendments apply strictly to unincorporated areas and not to incorporated cities or towns such as Boulder or Louisville.
