A tragic EF-2 tornado in Brazoria County on Saturday claimed the life of 47-year-old Jamie Brown and caused nearly nine miles of destruction. The tornado, which started near County Road 172 and extended to the eastern edge of Hillcrest, also left four people with non-critical injuries, according to Click2Houston. Brown was thrown about 100 feet from her home during the storm.
The storm caused extensive damage, with at least ten homes severely impacted, rooftops torn off, and schools like Walt Disney Elementary School affected. Brazoria County officials and the National Weather Service are assessing the damage. The National Weather Service confirmed multiple tornadoes hit the region, increasing the distress for residents.
In the midst of the sorrow, Brown's relative, Peter Bochard, mourned her loss, saying, "This we can all replace, Her, we can't." Manvel Mayor Dan Davis expressed his condolences, saying, "We’re keeping them in our thoughts and our prayers. I had a close friend that actually discovered the body of the deceased and I know him and his family are processing through that right now," in a statement obtained by FOX26.
To support recovery efforts, Alvin ISD has directed concerned individuals to a donation site set up by the district's education foundation to help educators who lost materials in the storm.
