The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is prepping for bridge demolition work that will lead to road closures in the area. Starting January 6, Valley Road under I-25, just south of the Little Thompson River, will be completely closed until January 10 at 5 p.m., according to CDOT. This is part of the I-25 North Express Lanes Project, which aims to rebuild and expand the highway for better traffic flow between Mead and Berthoud.

Drivers should note that no detour routes will be provided for the Valley Road section of the closure, so plan your alternative routes. Following that, Weld County Road 32 under I-25, east of Mead, will face a similar fate starting January 13 until January 17. Traffic will need to detour around the closures using nearby roads, which may cause inconvenience to those accustomed to these routes.

The I-25 North Express Lanes Project is a comprehensive plan to improve and widen this corridor over a six-mile stretch. It's scheduled for completion by 2028 and promises to relieve some of the area's notable congestion. These closures, inconvenient as they are, represent pieces of a puzzle that, when completed, should streamline the flow from Denver to Fort Collins, providing more than two lanes of travel in both directions for the first time.
