Three-year-old Mylah Rojas suffered a fractured skull in a hit-and-run accident involving a scooter. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon last week in the Williamsbridge neighborhood, and the girl is now in critical condition at New York Health + Hospitals/Jacobi. According to abc7NY, the girl's mother, Mariel Rojas, reported that the suspect briefly looked at her injured daughter before fleeing the scene.
The PIX11 News reported the family's urgent appeal for help in locating the man responsible. The victim's uncle, Robert Rojas said, "It was crazy. You know, one day, we're having Thanksgiving dinner. Next day, we get this surprising news and we just been doing a lot of chain of prayers throughout everywhere."
Details of the crash were captured on surveillance, with the suspect last seen wearing an orange jacket, black sweatpants, and black sandals, alongside a distinctive blue moped with black stripes on the side. The NYPD has since released surveillance photos of a man believed to be connected to the reckless incident. Mylah's injuries, which include a brain bleed and swollen eyes, have left her in and out of consciousness, her mother told ABC7 New York.
The family, now clinging to hope, remains in a state of desperation and prayer for Mylah's recovery. "It's just something you don't expect. You see things like this happen on the news, but you never think it’s going to happen to your family," Robert explained in an interview with PIX11 News. The community is encouraged to come forward with any information that could lead to apprehending the individual responsible for this harrowing incident.
