Two men were injured in a stabbing during an attempted robbery at a Sunset Park gas station in Brooklyn, as violence once again shatters the community's routine. The incident occurred near a Shell station on 5th Avenue and 36th Street yesterday morning, according to ABC7NY. A 25-year-old food delivery worker found himself at knifepoint by two attackers demanding his moped while filling up his vehicle. Despite his refusals to comply, the confrontation turned physical and resulted in him receiving a stab wound to the arm.
The situation escalated when a 34-year-old onlooker intervened and suffered multiple stabbings to his back and thigh. Witnesses at the scene played a critical role, providing aid until emergency services could arrive. Both victims were taken to the hospital and are expected to recover from their injuries. The suspects, described as two men in their 20s wearing black masks and clothing, fled the scene on a red moped, heading westbound on 36th Street. "I feel very sad, this is a big problem," said Md Afsur, an employee at the gas station, which is situated across from an elementary school, as told to ABC7NY.
As officials work to piece together this violent puzzle, the community's sense of security finds itself frayed at the edges. PIX11 reported that the site was unable to provide police with video evidence due to camera malfunctions, underscoring an added frustration in the investigation. "They're trying to get a video, but they say the camera doesn’t work," a mechanic at the service center, Chris Rodriguez, disclosed to PIX11. He also alluded to the increasing circulations of mopeds in the area, which have become intertwined with concerns about gang activity.
