A Genesee County jury has found 26-year-old Cedric Thomas Hendrickson of Burton guilty of murder and multiple other charges in the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend's sister, 35-year-old Mallory Dunnivant. In addition to first-degree premeditated murder, Hendrickson was convicted of five counts of assault with intent to murder, thirteen related firearm charges, and one count of domestic violence. The convictions stem from a tragic incident that took place on January 11, 2023, as reported by CBS News Detroit.

Hendrickson's actions on the night of the shooting involved seeking out his ex-girlfriend at Dunnivant's apartment, according to both WNEM and ABC12. After a heated argument with his ex-girlfriend from the parking lot to her window on the third floor of the apartment building, Hendrickson returned to his car, and as he drove off, fired 11 shots at the third-floor window. Dunnivant was fatally struck while inside the apartment.

The shooting not only ended the life of Dunnivant, but it also took place in the presence of five children within the apartment at the time, underscoring the gravity and recklessness of the crime. Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton described the event as "an absolutely tragic and senseless incident" as per CBS News Detroit.

Hendrickson's alleged accomplice, 24-year-old Katarena Maddox was charged with tampering with evidence, felony firearm, and accessory after the fact to a felony Maddox, who struck a plea agreement resulting in the dismissal of a weapons charge, is set for probation pending completion of recovery court and will receive her sentencing on January 16, ABC12 reports. Hendrickson, meanwhile faces life in prison without the possibility of parole with a sentencing date on January 27 as per all three news sources.
