A pedestrian tragedy unfolded in a Burtonsville parking lot when a woman succumbed to injuries after being struck by a vehicle. The Montgomery County Police Department's Collision Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the incident which claimed the life of 37-year-old Michelle Gogan.

The accident occurred on December 26, in the vicinity of the Giant Food store located at the 15000 block of Old Columbia Pike. Gogan, a resident of Burtonsville, was getting out of the passenger side of her parked vehicle when she was hit. Third District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to reports of the collision around 11:30 a.m., as indicated by an official press release.

Preliminary findings suggest that as Gogan was exiting her car, a 2023 silver Mazda CX5, driven by an unnamed individual, was maneuvering into an adjacent parking spot and struck her, along with her vehicle and an additional parked car. The driver of the Mazda remained on site following the accident.

Following the incident, Gogan was transported to an area hospital where she later passed away from her injuries. The Collision Reconstruction Unit detectives are reaching out to the community, urging any eyewitnesses to come forward and provide additional information at (240) 773-6620 to assist with an ongoing inquiry into the tragic accident.
