Residents of Calimesa were reminded of the ever-present threat of property crime early Thursday morning when local authorities responded to reports of vehicle burglaries. According to a statement from the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, around 3:16 a.m., deputies arrived at the 1100 block of Coriander Street to find a suspect in the act of rummaging through a parked vehicle. When approached, the suspect absconded, eluding capture.
A second suspect, 29-year-old Jess Luque of Colton, was not so fortunate, detained at the scene by deputies. Charged with possession of stolen property, conspiracy, and possession of drug paraphernalia, Luque was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility. The Riverside Sheriff's Office is turning to the community for help in identifying the at-large suspect. During the investigation, deputies uncovered several other vehicles that had been tampered with, all of which were left unsecured by their owners.
The Sheriff's Office is pushing for heightened vigilance among residents. "Each evening, make it a habit to lock your car doors, roll up windows, and remove valuables from plain view," advised the statement, emphasizing the role that routine preventative measures can play in deterring would-be thieves. Homeowners were likewise urged to maintain tight security, reinforcing the importance of locking doors and windows, along with the utilization of security systems and exterior lighting.
Community members with any information regarding these incidents are encouraged to reach out to Deputy Arrieta at (951) 922-7100.
