Border security efforts have recently led to a significant drug seizure at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry. Officials from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations, have intercepted over $372,000 worth of narcotics. This comes amid ongoing discussions regarding the efficiency and effectiveness of border security protocols.

In a recent operation that took place on Monday, CBP officers targeted a 2021 Jeep Renegade for a detailed secondary inspection. During the scrutiny, a CBP officer decided to further scrutinize the vehicle driven by a 26-year-old female Mexican citizen with a 24-year-old female companion—also a Mexican citizen. A combination of CBP canine teams and advanced non-intrusive inspection technology was used to discover hidden contraband within the vehicle's structure.

The search revealed 12 packages containing a total of 27.91 pounds of alleged cocaine strategically concealed within the vehicle's fenders and rocker panels. According to a statement by CBP, the narcotics seized are estimated to have a street value of approximately $372,659.

Following the seizure of the narcotics and the Jeep Renegade, the incident escalated to arrests and further investigations. "I commend the continuous dedication that our officers exhibit as they hold the line against the trafficking of illicit narcotics as part of our border security mission," stated Port Director Pete Beattie, of Eagle Pass Port of Entry, in words obtained by the CBP's newsroom. The driver and her passenger were both taken into custody, and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents have since initiated a criminal investigation.
