Two people have been arrested after a 5-year-old girl was critically injured in a shooting at her home on Galveston Street, Southwest, on Monday evening. The Metropolitan Police Department said the girl was accidentally shot by a younger child who found an unsecured gun in the house.
At around 6:29 p.m., officers responded to a call and found a young victim with serious injuries. They provided first aid until emergency services arrived, and she was taken to the hospital for treatment. Darrell Graham, 59, who has no fixed address, was found at the scene and is facing charges of First Degree Cruelty to Children. 21-year-old D’Jaunae McCrory Jackson, who was also at the apartment, allegedly fought with officers and is charged with Assault on a Police Officer, as reported by the Metropolitan Police Department.
On Tuesday, police found a ghost gun and ammunition in an apartment, leading to charges against Jackson, including child cruelty and gun storage violations. The investigation is ongoing, as stated by the Metropolitan Police Department.
