The Chino Police Department in San Bernardino County reported the arrest of four individuals tied to a "bank jugging" operation, a crime where thieves follow bank customers who have withdrawn cash and then steal it when the opportunity arises. According to KTLA, the incident occurred on Oct. 10 when a male victim, after leaving a bank, found that the cash he had just taken out was taken from his back pocket.
The surveillance footage, used to track down the culprits, showed the victim leaving the bank with the suspects' vehicles tailing him. After the victim's car sustained a flat tire and he pulled over to check, the suspects made their move. The vehicles were shown circling the block before a male approached the victim, snatched the envelope of cash, and fled the scene, as detailed by KTLA. Despite the misfortune, a combination of home surveillance, street cameras, and analytic police work quickly pointed to the suspects.
Details shared on the City of Chino Police Department Facebook page revealed that officers pieced together video evidence, arrest records, and database information to identify the four individuals involved in the crime. Following the diligent effort, police arrested the suspects at two different locations. They successfully recovered most of the stolen money and found additional evidence, including a handgun, that linked the suspects to the crime.
