On Christmas Day, a significant blaze tore through a two-story single-family home in Granada Hills, resulting in one hospitalization and a number of pets being saved. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the incident at 11255 N Dempsey Avenue at around 12:20 PM, with flames visibly engulfing the second floor. The LAFD alert described an initial report of one person at the scene, but the patient's condition was not immediately known.
Efforts to subdue the fire, which had originated on the first floor and had aggressively spread to the attic, were successful within 26 minutes, as detailed in a follow-up alert by LAFD. Firefighters operating in offensive mode engaged the fire with additional resources and managed to extinguish the flames. Transported in fair condition, the firefighters also helped a 60-year-old woman out of the structure.
The fire department's quick response also led to an impromptu rescue operation of domestic animals. "Firefighters rescued three pet dogs and one cat from inside the structure and reunited them with the owners," the LAFD stated in their knockdown announcement. However, despite the rapid response, several more cats were reported unaccounted for, leaving firefighters to search for them amid their overhaul procedures. The LAFD continues to investigate the cause of this yuletide fire, and the extent of the damage to the home remains unclear.
