
A house in Charlotte’s affluent Piper Glen area was seriously damaged by a fire on Christmas night, with no injuries reported. The incident, which saw the deployment of large fire department resources, occurred on Callander Court, just off Rea Road. According to WBTV, the Charlotte Fire Department had to quickly to strike a second alarm, calling for additional aid to combat the blaze.
Approximately 60 firefighters were called to the scene as reported by WSOCTV, indicating the severity of the fire.
The effort to douse the flames took nearly an hour with the fire being brought under control around 7:30 p.m. Officials later attributed the cause of the fire to an accidental chimney fire. The damage incurred by this unfortunate event was estimated at $125,000, as detailed by a WCNC report. This incident adds to a worrying trend in the city, following two deadly fires since the previous Sunday and another significant fire that destroyed a home on Christmas Eve.
The series of fires across Charlotte has raised concern among local safety officials. They have responded with a renewed push for all residents to ensure their smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms are functioning properly. This follows the discovery, after one of the fatal fires, that smoke detectors were present but not operating effectively.
While investigations into the most recent fire are ongoing, the authorities have yet to officially to release more detailed information.
