Residents of Clay County now have improved access to state benefits such as SNAP and Medicaid, thanks to a partnership between Clay County Community and Social Services and the Florida Department of Children and Families. According to information obtained by Clay County government's website, this initiative started in September and was designed to address the need for local support in navigating the state benefits system.
Before this partnership, Clay County residents faced the challenge of traveling to Jacksonville for such assistance according to Coll, the spokesperson for the project. "Many individuals we connected with expressed difficulties in finding local assistance for food or medical benefits applications," Coll told Clay County government's website. Now, the Case Specialists Team is providing much needed local support. They aid with applications, document submissions, and act as advocates for Clay residents to ensure a more navigable path through the often complex systems.
The team, tasked with offering services to those in short-term and long-term need, is known for its empathetic and client-centered approach. DeJesus highlighted their philosophy saying, "Our approach is rooted in active listening and ensuring that every voice is heard without judgment." They aim to provide a supportive environment, DeJesus reiterated in a statement provided to Clay County government's website.
In addition to state benefits, the Case Specialists can assist residents with transportation services, community development grants, and the Continuum of Care program. "Often, individuals may not know where to begin, or they may feel overwhelmed by the process," Coll noted according to Clay County government's website, underscoring the importance of guiding clients through these resources. According to a statement from Coll, their responsibilities are centered on connecting community members to crucial services they might struggle to locate or navigate on their own. They maintain connections with local non-profits, faith groups, and other government units, ensuring referrals are current and comprehensive.
As Clay County continues to enhance its service outreach, an off-site setup has been planned for Keystone Heights at the Keystone Beach Pavilion, launched on Wednesday. This is an effort to support residents who might find it difficult to travel to the main Community Services office. According to the statement, DeJesus expressed the team's dedication, "Our commitment to delivering exceptional customer service remains unwavering as we strive to make a meaningful impact in our community."
