A Colorado State Public Defender's Office attorney is facing serious allegations after being arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a child. The attorney, identified as Thomas Cushing, is alleged to have been involved in a pattern of abuse beginning in July, targeting a 14-year-old in Colorado Springs. According to 9NEWS, the city's police department was first alerted to the potential assault on November 1 by their Crimes Against Children Unit.
With an arrest warrant secured on November 22, Cushing surrendered himself to authorities and was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Jail. Records indicate that the abuse endured by the child not only persisted but was patterned in nature. As reported by The Denver Post, the felony charge of sexual assault of a child formally pressed against Cushing has highlighted the disturbing element of repetition in these alleged crimes.
The stoic walls of the courthouse, incalculable in their witness to the pleas and grievances of humanity, now bear silent testament to perhaps one of its own, accused of breaching the trust society places in those appointed its protectors. Amidst these unsettling revelations, investigators are contemplating the grim possibility that there may be more individuals who fell victim to Cushing's alleged misconduct. A spokesperson for the Colorado Springs Police Department emphasized the likelihood of additional victims or witnesses, urging others with information to come forward. This concern was echoed as obtained by KKTV, which further stated, "Based on the detective’s follow-up investigation, it is believed there may be additional victims and/or witnesses to this investigation."
