The death of a 5-year-old Coos County boy has been deemed as resulting from hypothermia following an official autopsy report, as the Coos County Sheriff's Office declared the case to be "suspicious in nature." According to OregonLive, the child, who had autism, purportedly wandered off while his mother was sleeping. The authorities made this conclusion subsequent to an extensive investigation that led them to believe the boy left the house inadvertently.
The initial report came from the boy's mother, who discovered that her son, Joshua, was not in their Hauser home after she awoke from a nap they took together. The time frame detailed by the mother estimated that the nap started around 1 p.m. and upon waking up at 5:30 p.m, Joshua was nowhere to be found. This statement was documented by KOIN. The local community and law enforcement conducted an exhaustive search after the boy's disappearance was reported.
Despite the initial determination of the cause of death, there remains an ongoing investigation with additional laboratory results pending, as officials are meticulous in their approach to ascertain the full scope of the incident. "It is as important for investigators to prove the innocence of involved parties as it is to prove guilt," the Coos County Sheriff's Office expressed in a statement, consistent with the details provided by KDRV. As part of their thorough examination, search warrants were executed in the subsequent days and weeks after the child was found.
