Crystal Mountain, nestled 28 miles southwest of Traverse City, has officially launched its 2024-25 winter sports season, after receiving a hearty snowfall and investing over 75 hours in snowmaking operations. As reported by Michigan's Thumb, the resort celebrated its opening day with a "first chair" ceremony on the Crystal Clipper High-Speed Quad chairlift, signifying the start of the snow sports for thrill-seekers and families alike.
The Chief Operating Officer of Crystal Mountain, Karyn Thorr, said, "Opening day is one of the most exciting days of the year, especially when Mother Nature delivers several inches of snow and cold temperatures for our snowmaking team to work their magic." According to an article by UpNorthLive, the resort's operational team has worked throughout the year to upgrade their snowmaking system and maintain their grooming fleet, ensuring the slopes are in top condition for visitors.
During the opening phase, 20 different runs and four lifts, including the Buck Quad, Loki Quad, and a Crystal Carpet, will be available to skiers and boarders, offering a mix of beginner and black diamond trails. Despite the excitement, the resort will pause operations on Dec. 9 for additional snowmaking, anticipating a full season reopening on Dec. 13 and the commencement of night skiing on Dec. 20, as per Michigan's Thumb.
