Dallas area residents should keep their umbrellas close as the National Weather Service projects a wet and possibly stormy week ahead, with periodic rainfall and thunderstorm chances beginning this afternoon and persisting through the week. According to the National Weather Service, the chance of precipitation today stands at 70%, bringing patchy drizzle after 3 pm, possibly escalating to showers and thunderstorms by nightfall, "a slight chance of showers before 9 pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 9 pm and midnight, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after midnight," as the cloudy veil sets with a steady temperature around 59 degrees.

Heading into the weekend, a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms loom before noon on Saturday, forecasters suggest a transition to clearer skies with a high near 72, however, the possibility of inclement weather makes a swift comeback late Sunday night into Monday where showers are likely and could be accompanied by thunderstorms which has a high chance of precipitation sitting at 70% before noon then falling to a lower chance of showers through the afternoon transitioning to partly sunny skies with a gust of winds that could reach as high as 20 mph as the temperatures stay relatively mild, peaking around 69 degrees Monday. The National Weather Service also alerts to increasing clouds Saturday night with a low around 49, followed by a 20 percent chance of rain after noon on Sunday, and a mostly cloudy night with lows dipping to around 61.

While severe weather isn't anticipated at this time, regional denizens should remain vigilant as "isolated thunderstorms are possible tonight. Lightning will be the primary hazard," noted the Hazardous Weather Outlook released early this morning, with no current expectations of spotter activation. Conditions through next Thursday keep a consistent pattern of cloud coverage and rain possibilities, including a 30 percent chance of showers on Tuesday night, and a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms by Wednesday with temperatures taking a slight tumble to a high near 58.

As the week draws on, the weather will make a gradual shift towards clearer conditions, with a partly cloudy Wednesday night forecasted and a low around 34, followed by a brighter outlook for Thursday when the sun is expected to reappear, elevating temperatures to a comfortable high near 52, indicating that while residents may have to navigate through sporadic showers and the occasional thunder rumble, the ebb and flow of the Texan weather system will resume its dry spell, momentarily, allowing for an eventual reprieve from the week's rainy disposition and the chance to enjoy the brisk December air, unencumbered by the need for rain boots or the sound of thunderclaps that has characterized much of the current forecast period.
