The first commercial energy-capturing pods by JetWind Power Corporation, a local Dallas company, have been purchased by the airport after a two-year testing period. These pods have proven capable of catching and converting wind generated by aircraft into a viable source of sustainable energy. "We couldn't be prouder to host JetWind during their prototype phase and help certify the benefits of this technology," said Patrick Carreno, Director of Aviation in a recent statement, as per the City of Dallas. "It’s even more exciting to be their first customer after being a guinea pig! Harnessing energy from our many flight operations to contribute power to our local grid is extremely cool and gratifying, to put it simply."

The testing, which lasted from 2021 to 2024, resulted in DAL becoming the first to deploy JetWind's ECPs, with an order of thirteen pods to be delivered over the next three years. Moreover, DAL passengers will also see the addition of six JetWind-branded charging stations, two of which are already garnering attention in the airport's food and retail court areas, clocking around 10,000 uses. The patented, USA-made technology doesn't just stop at airports; it could potentially find uses in heliports, train systems, roadways, and even military operations, as detailed in a report published by the City of Dallas on December 16th, 2024.

This innovation in energy recycling has garnered international eyes, with countries like Australia, Ecuador, Switzerland, France, and the NEOM project showing interest following the publicized results of JetWind's tests at DAL in 2023. Having already made an impact, JetWind looks to expand internationally by 2025, as mentioned in its recent announcement.
