The National Weather Service in Tampa Bay has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for parts of southwest and west central Florida, in effect until 9 AM EST Thursday. According to the advisory by the NWS, visibility will be one quarter mile or less in dense fog across the affected region.
The advisory covers a wide range of locations, including Tampa, Sarasota, and Fort Myers. Commuters in these areas should be prepared for sudden drops in visibility, which has the potential to create hazardous driving conditions. The NWS advises, "If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you."
Current weather conditions in Tampa, as reported at 5:53 am EST, include fog and mist with humidity levels at a saturated 100 percent. Drivers experiencing these conditions should take extra precautions, especially during the early morning hours when visibility tends to be at its worst.
Tonight's forecast for the Tampa area predicts partly cloudy skies with a low around 61 degrees Fahrenheit. Commuters can expect improved driving conditions as the fog is scheduled to lift later in the morning, giving way to a mostly sunny day with a high near 79 degrees. Similarly, the rest of the week is expected to see generally clear skies, with daytime highs gradually decreasing and nighttime lows dipping into the 40s by Saturday night.
