Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) has begun a series of street closures on Quebec Street to implement a new safety improvement project. According to the agency's announcement, sections of Quebec Street will be temporarily closed as crews work to install sidewalks and enhance the traffic signal system to increase neighborhood safety, comfort, and accessibility.
Starting on December 2, DOTI will close Quebec Street between 13th Avenue and Colfax Avenue, rerouting traffic to alternate routes including Monaco Street Parkway and Syracuse Street. This is just the first of several planned closures, with work scheduled to continue into the early spring. The decision to close the streets temporarily is expected to minimize the project’s overall completion time, which was initially projected to finish in September, DOTI has aimed to definitively complete the project before the anticipated date, weather permitting.
The Quebec Street Mobility and Pedestrian Safety Improvement Project is being funded by the Elevate Denver Bond, which is a taxpayer-backed initiative. As stated by DOTI, the project will provide sidewalks between 12th Avenue and Montview Boulevard and fill in gaps in the existing pedestrian network.
The work will continue with Quebec Street undergoing more closures in two-to-three block segments during weekdays, with closures including Colfax Ave to 17th Ave from January 2 to February 17, and then from 17th Ave to Montview Ave from February 18 to April 3. The closures are set to only take place on weekdays, allowing traffic to flow normally during weekends for residents’ convenience.
