A Detroit man died Tuesday afternoon after being hit by a semi-truck and then a Ford Edge on the Southfield Freeway near Joy Road in the southbound lanes of M-39. Michigan State Police and the Detroit Police Department are investigating the incident, according to Audacy.

A 44-year-old man died after jumping over a fence onto the M-39 freeway. Detroit police were responding to a report of a suspicious person when the man jumped onto the freeway and was hit by passing cars. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities are investigating, and an autopsy is pending. "As the patrol unit turned around to make contact with the male, he jumped over the M-39 freeway fence on to the west side of the freeway southbound," as stated by FOX 2.

The freeway was closed for several hours while investigators looked into the incident. Traffic returned to normal once they finished. Michigan State Police reports a 6% increase in pedestrian deaths and an 11% rise in crashes involving pedestrians.
