The ongoing legal saga took a new turn when Latoreya Till, the mother who previously filed a civil suit against Detroit Judge Kenneth King, was charged with assaulting her 71-year-old aunt. According to Deadline Detroit, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office accused Till of being intoxicated during the incident, which occurred on Tuesday in a Detroit home.
Following the charge, Till was arraigned and given a $5,000 personal bond, with a pre-trial hearing set for December 20. The accusation comes months after her teenage daughter's controversial court appearance, where she was handcuffed by Judge King for falling asleep during a field trip. CBS News Detroit reported the assault took place at approximately 6:30 p.m. in the 11500 block of Duchess Street.
Till's earlier clash with the judicial system earned attention after she and her daughter filed a lawsuit against Judge King, alleging he violated the teen's civil rights. The judge had been temporarily removed from the bench but returned after completing mandated training. As of now, Judge King is back presiding over court cases.
Till previously expressed her distress over the incident involving her daughter, asserting to FOX 2 Detroit, "Basically, I just want Judge King to take accountability for the way he humiliated my daughter." Her daughter Eva, following the courtroom incident, faced challenges, with Till adding, "It’s been devastating. Eva doesn’t want to come outside." Meanwhile, Judge King's attorney Todd Perkins underscored that they are watching Till's case but are refraining from premature judgments.
As this complex story unfolds, eyes will remain fixed on both the forthcoming pre-trial hearing for Till's assault charge and the impending legal proceedings related to the civil suit against Judge Kenneth King. The latter's attorney has already filed a motion to dismiss the suit, which will be heard by a judge in February.
