An employee of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, who worked in the Detention Division, has been arrested on charges of sexual misconduct with an inmate. The investigation into the former civilian crew leader, Alexis Montoya, was initiated on October 20, when officers received a tip regarding the alleged inappropriate relationship.
Upon examining the details, DCSO detectives found probable cause for believing that Montoya had committed a crime, and as a result, she was placed on administrative leave without pay on October 22. Montoya, who had been with the office since October 12, resigned on December 4, just days before turning herself in. According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Montoya is facing two charges, 'Sexual Conduct in a Correctional Institution- Felony 5-sexual penetration' and 'Sexual Conduct in a Correctional Institution – Felony 6 – oral sex.'
As reported by Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Weekly emphasized the gravity of the accusations and the office's stance on such misconduct, stating, "Maintaining the integrity and trust of our Office is a top priority. This former employee’s actions are a serious betrayal of that trust and the values we uphold. This behavior will not be tolerated, and we will ensure justice is served while continuing to hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct." It is important to note that charges are not convictions, and Montoya is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
