
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has appointed M. Connie Almeida, Ph.D., as the new chair of the Family and Protective Services Council. The Council is responsible for researching and providing recommendations to the commissioner on the operations of the Department of Family and Protective Services, according to the Office of the Governor website.
Almeida has extensive experience, including four decades of work with individuals with disabilities. She is currently the director of Behavioral Health Services for Fort Bend County and is a licensed psychologist and specialist in school psychology. Almeida also serves as a Commissioner on The Texas Judicial Commission for Mental Health. Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from Western Connecticut State College, a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Maryland, and post-doctorate studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Almeida is actively involved with organizations that support vulnerable groups, including children, adults, and families.
