A deadly fire yesterday morning claimed the life of a man in Murray Hill. The fire, which raged through a five-story residential building on Third Avenue near East 38th and 39th Streets, brought about a significant response from emergency services just before 6:30 a.m., according to the ABC7NY.

Despite the early hour, approximately 60 fire and EMS personnel were on the scene, battling the blaze that had engulfed part of the building, Citizen App video recorded. Officials from the FDNY were able to bring the fire under control in roughly 40 minutes, though not before tragedy struck inside the burning structure. A 40-year-old man, discovered unconscious by police responding to the incident, was removed from the building in critical condition, reported New York Daily News.

The man was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where suffering from the extensive injuries incurred in the fire, he was later pronounced dead. The authorities have not yet released the man’s name or further details pending notification of kin.

While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, fire marshals are meticulously combing through the aftermath in an effort to piece together the events that led up to the deadly incident. The local community, often startled by sirens in the early dawn, was left reeling as the news of the casualty spread.
