An East Boston man has been arraigned on a series of animal cruelty charges, the Suffolk District Attorney's Office has reported. According to the DA's announcement, 27-year-old Armani Doshi, faced a judge on counts related to the abuse of a young German Shepherd believed to have endured several months of maltreatment. Doshi stands accused of both animal cruelty and animal cruelty by custodian—six counts each.

As outlined by the same announcement, Judge Debra DelVecchio has set Doshi's bail at $100 and revoked his bail for 60 days on a separate case. This unrelated matter involved threatening a judge in the Chelsea District Court. Doshi is expected to reappear in court for a pre-trial hearing on January 16. The charges stem from various witnesses' reports submitted between September and December, detailing the abuse suffered by the canine at the hands of its owner.

These witnesses, identified in the reports to the Animal Rescue League of Boston and other relevant authorities, claim to have observed multiple disturbing instances. They have reported hearing the dog cry throughout the day and have seen Doshi mistreat the animal in public spaces, forcing it to walk in unnatural positions and laying on the dog's neck to quiet its barking. Maintenance staff in Doshi's building further reported evidence of the abuse, finding bite marks on a door frame and wall and discovering the dog often confined to a dark closet without essentials.

With this compelling evidence, including photos and videos, authorities were able to secure a warrant for Doshi’s arrest. The German Shepherd was seized by the Animal Rescue League of Boston, as stated in the official press release. District Attorney Kevin Hayden expressed his gratitude towards the witnesses for their role in bringing the abuse to light and recognized the collaboration of the Suffolk County Animal Cruelty Task Force, which was formed earlier in January.

Hayden, a dog owner, reflected on the season's spirit of generosity toward pets, stating to the Suffolk County District Attorney: "During the holiday season many pets receive even more attention and affection from the families who love and care for them. But there are always the heartbreaking exceptions, and we will hold people accountable for cruel and abusive behavior whenever we can." The District Attorney urged the public to continue reporting animal abuse to hotlines maintained by organizations like the ARL and MSPCA.
