As the year winds down, Chief Matt Sackett of the Eden Prairie Police Department took a moment to express gratitude to the local community for their support and cooperation throughout 2024. In a year-end message, Sackett highlighted the various ways community engagement has played a pivotal role in the city's law enforcement efforts. According to a bulletin published by the Eden Prairie Government, the collaboration included gathering over 8,500 pounds of food for the PROP Food Shelf and facilitating a heartwarming Holidays with Heroes event that helped 14 children buy presents for their families.
Eden Prairie residents were not only contributing to special events but were actively working alongside the police to maintain public safety. The report noted that everyday citizens played a critical role, "From calling about a suspicious vehicle to providing aid to someone experiencing a medical incident," showcasing a partnership that strives to keep the community safe. Sackett encouraged residents to watch a concise video underscoring the mutual efforts to build a stronger community bond. This initiative reflects the city's commitment to not just police its residents, but to also sincerely engage and find unity with them.
Beyond the food drives and holiday events, the EPPD also partnered with local businesses such as Godavari Indian Restaurant, 7 Corners Coffee, and others, organizing 'Coffee with a Cop' gatherings across Eden Prairie. These events aimed to foster a closer relationship between law enforcement and the people they serve, by literally breaking bread—or sipping coffee—together. The efforts depict an ongoing conversation, a dialogue sustained over steaming cups, wherein officers and civilians can share their stories, concerns, and aspirations for the city they call home.
Chief Sackett's message did not just serve as a pat on the back for the department or the community. It was an acknowledgment of a mutual journey, a voyage through time where for 51 years, the ethos of Eden Prairie's residents and officers have continuously sought to protect and serve one another. Sackett concluded, "It is our honor and privilege to protect and serve you and we look forward to continuing to work together in the coming year," as part of his year-end reflections. This sentiment mirrors Eden Prairie's aspiration to not only reflect on the past achievements but also to ambitiously look forward to the possibilities that a new year of partnership could bring.
